Favorites at the Uffizzi...

These are simply pictures I took of a couple of the art cards I bought.  The Uffizzi itself is a gem of an art museum; a fantastic collection that I wish we could have had days to appreciate.  At the suggestion of our friend Wendy in London, we downloaded podcasts onto all our ipods from the travel writer Rick Steves & had our own instant audio guides for everything we saw, not only in Florence, but in Venice, Rome, etc; this may have been the best travel tip I've ever received!!  It's certainly saved us a lot of money & has been convenient with timing as well.  Thanks Wendy!!

Artist Mariotto Albertinelli painted "Visitation" in 1503.  How he & all the others were able to capture such colors is beyond amazing.  The warmth of these deep, rich colors drew me right in from the moment I saw it across the room.  Their satin like robes compelled me immediately; looking at the painting itself, the colors are so vivid that they require consideration of the depth of content too; the warmth of the instant connection & relationship between Mary and Elizabeth at that monumental moment.  This is mostly conjecture of course, & they certainly weren't dressed anything like the picutre, but looking at Mary's young and heavy face, bearing the weight of uncertain proportions &  Elizabeth's reassuring, and tender  embrace....there's much to think about while looking at it!
